Choose the teeth and module
Gears mesh when they share the module and the pressure angle. The module is the pitch diameter divided by the teeth.
Add a bore
The centre hole for the shaft, in millimetres. Leave 0 for none.
Download and cut
The centre distance of two gears is the sum of their pitch diameters divided by two.
Questions
Will two gears from here mesh?
Yes, if they have the same module and pressure angle. Place their centres half the sum of the pitch diameters apart.
What module should I use for laser-cut gears?
1.5 to 3 mm suits 3-6 mm plywood or acrylic; smaller teeth lose too much to the kerf.
What is the diametral pitch?
The imperial measure: teeth per inch of pitch diameter, 25.4 divided by the module. Module 2 is about 12.7 DP.
